Hi! It’s me, Cathey Marie!
I am a pattern and ruler designer, quilter, teacher, and fabric lover from northwestern Pennsylvania.
Cathey Marie Designs is my company. I am dedicated to creating quilting patterns and rulers that simplify construction and give quilters a feeling of
joy and accomplishment.
I have been sewing for as long as I can remember. In 2011,
I began working at a quilt shop and discovered that I had
a talent for designing and writing patterns.
In 2012, I began submitting patterns to Checker Distributors’ Cut Loose Press. As of today, I have had 58 patterns published through Cut Loose Press. I was featured in 2 interviews Catching Up with Cut Loose Press Video Interview and Designer Profile.
In 2014, one of my quilts was chosen at a juried exhibition of quilts made exclusively from Clothworks’ American Made Brand cotton solids speaking to the theme, “Celebrating Farm to Fabric”. The exhibit premiered at International Quilt Market and Quilt Festival and traveled the U.S. for a year.
My work has also been featured in a variety of other books, publications, and media, including: Quilter’s World magazines, Annie’s books and special interest magazines, and two books by Tricia Lynn Maloney: Orphan Block Quilts: Making a Home for Antique, Vintage, Collectible and Leftover Quilt Blocks, and A Russian Journey in Quilts: The Story of Nicholas and Nina Filatoff.
In 2017 I designed two patterns for Red Rooster Fabrics.
I introduced my Y Block Ruler™ in 2017 and self-published 22 patterns to support my ruler. My patterns and the ruler are carried by 2 wholesale distributors: Checker Distributors and E.E. Schenck. I offer classes,
trunk shows, & guild programs.
Northcott fabric, The Warm Company, and Aurifil Threads have generously chosen to sponsor my designs.
I began judging quilt shows in 2018
which I very much enjoy.
In 2018 I decided to pursue pattern designing full time.
I also became a pattern designer for
Northcott Fabric in 2018.
I was one of the 10 finalists in Craftsy’s 2018 Quilt Designer Fellowship! It is a special program created to help
up-and-coming quilters make the leap from amateur artists to professional designers. The Fellowship saw tremendous popularity, with hundreds of incredible submissions.
I am a member of The Free Spirit Quilt Guild
in Saegertown, PA.
I am having so much fun designing and sharing my ruler and patterns with others. I love what I do, and the best part is seeing what other people make with my patterns.
I am so grateful to be able to do creative work as my occupation. Giving other people the tools
to do their own creative work is amazing.
